Raising teenagers ain’t for no suckers! Especially GIRLS .. but I’m learning daily the importance of communication. As a mom of 4, I get so overwhelmed with just being a mom that I forget my teenagers aren’t so little anymore and that they too can get overwhelmed. As Mothers, when we get overwhelmed— the first thing we do is yell at our children and if you’re from the Caribbean islands and you’re anything like your parents (mom), you’re definitely screaming at the top of your lungs for any little thing like the dishes lol [guilty of this] .. When these kids are overwhelmed, they shutdown.
We can NOT parent them with the same parenting skills our parents used on us growing up. In this new day and age , you must parent them accordingly. Now I won’t say we can’t use all of parental techniques because hunnnnnnnny I still use some because it gets the job done. But what I think we need to do more of is to be a listening ear to our children, spend more time, and really get to know them because they’re not the same little babies we raised. They are their own person, they have feelings, thoughts and problems too…
I’m just super happy both my daughters and I are in a great space and they can talk without them feeling like they have too.
I’d say talk to him/her you’d be surprised to see how much they’ve grown and can hold a whole adult conversation … It’ll shock you!
